ABSTRACT
This experiment aimed at investigating the comparative growth and feed intake
analysis of albino and normal skinned Giant African Land Snail (GALS) Archachatina
marginata. A total number of 60 snails were used for this research. The snails were
purchased from a reputable farm in Abeokuta. Complete Randomized Design (CRD)
was used. The experimental diet was formulated using maize, groundnut cake,
soyabean meal, fish meal etc. Treatment 1 consisted of 30 Albino giant African land
snails A. marginata and Treatment 2 consisted of 30 Normal Skinned giant Africa land
snails. A. marginata The result revealed that there is significant difference (p < 0.05) in
final weight, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. Normal skinned giant African land
snail recorded the higher values for final weight (955g), weight gain (195g), shell length
(0.70cm) and shell circumference (2.60cm) while Albino giant African land snail
recorded lower values of final weight (850g, SEM 2.56) weight gain (90g), shell length
(0.52cm) and shell circumference (2.55cm). Normal skinned giant African land snail
also recorded the lower feed conversion ratio (4.05). It was concluded that normal
skinned giant African land snails had less feed intake, higher weight gain, less feed
conversion ratio than the albino snail.
